Wanderers - my first single
My first project as a singer/songwriter/composer is an EP entitled Pigeons. I decided to use the most upbeat song, Wanderers, as my first single.
Wanderers is a unique song. It is based off of the painting, Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog by Casper David Friedrich (above). The majesty of this piece inspired the beautiful string arrangements and chord progressions as well as the lyrics. However, to make it more personal to me and cutting edge, I juxtaposed the beauty against a raging percussive beat accompanied by an urban bass line.
The lyrics, although abstract are immensely personal to me. They are founded in the painting explained above, as well as literary allusions and references to other song lyrics by my favorite artists. Here are the lyrics:
Standing over your sea of fog
Let me go
Differences aside, opinions stem the tide.
I am running out of space.
I leave without a trace.
How high you climb.
You’ll never find
The god you seek, one dance with him and now you’re through
Standing from your pedestal
Whispers seeping through your teeth.
I am lying in the reeds.
You say, “Frank Lloyd Wright?”
I say, “I won’t put up a fight”.
Let me go.
How high you climb.
You’ll never find
The god you seek. One dance with him and now you’re through.
